This works fine for straightforward white rice with a predictable water ratio. A "fuzzy logic" rice cooker uses sensors and a small onboard computer to continuously adjust cooking time and temperature based on real-time feedback, rather than following one fixed heating pattern — this allows it to handle a wider variety of rice types and textures more precisely, adjusting for factors a simple on/off cooker can't account for.

The one thing people forget
Rinse rice before cooking unless a specific recipe or rice type explicitly says otherwise — rinsing removes excess surface starch that can otherwise make cooked rice gummier and stickier than intended, and this step matters more to final rice texture than most differences between rice cooker models or price points.
